When to Visit the Annapolis Valley: A Season-by-Season Guide

The Annapolis Valley is one of the few places in Nova Scotia that's genuinely worth visiting year-round. Each season has its own character — here's how to pick the one that fits your trip.

Spring (April–June): Blossoms and quiet The Apple Blossom Festival in late May turns the whole Valley pink and white. Wineries are open, trails are uncrowded, and rates at Sunken Escapes are at their lowest. Bring layers — mornings are crisp.

Summer (July–August): Lake season Peak Sunken Lake weather. Kayaks, swimming, long sunset paddles, fire pits every night. Wineries are in full swing and Wolfville is buzzing with summer events. Book early — July and August fill up months ahead.

Fall (September–October): The best-kept secret Most locals will tell you fall is the Valley's best season. Vineyards turn gold, the apple harvest is in full swing, hiking weather is perfect, and the dark skies are the deepest of the year. The barrel sauna becomes essential.

Winter (November–March): Quiet and cosy The Valley goes still. Snow on the dock, woodsmoke from the sauna, and some of the clearest night skies you'll ever see. A handful of wineries stay open for tastings by the fire, and the cabins are heated for cold-weather stays. The ideal trip for couples who want to disappear for a weekend.

When we'd book If it's your first visit, aim for late September or early October. Warm enough for the lake on a sunny afternoon, cool enough for the sauna at night, and the Valley at its most beautiful.
