A Foodie's Guide to Kentville and New Minas, Nova Scotia

Wolfville gets the wine-country headlines, but Kentville and New Minas are where Valley locals actually eat. Both towns are a ten-minute drive from Sunken Escapes, and between them you'll find some of the best farm-to-table cooking, craft beer and farm stands in Nova Scotia.

Breakfast and brunch Start in downtown Kentville. The Union Street Café is the local institution — wood-fired everything, strong coffee, and a patio that fills up fast on summer weekends. For something quieter, Half Acre Café does a beautiful avocado toast and pour-over.

Lunch and farm stands Drive the Highway 1 strip between Kentville and New Minas and you'll pass Noggins Corner Farm Market — local apples, cider donuts, prepared meals to take back to the cabin. Hennigar's Farm Market is the other stop: their meat pies are a Valley staple.

Craft beer and cider Sea Level Brewing in Port Williams is a short hop from New Minas, but Paddy's Pub in Kentville pours a serious local tap list. For cider, Annapolis Cider Company in Wolfville is the obvious choice, but Lake City Cider in Dartmouth sources many apples from right here in the Valley.

Dinner Pete's Frootique in New Minas is a grocery store with a deli that punches above its weight. For a sit-down dinner, Front & Central in Wolfville is worth the fifteen-minute drive; closer to home, the Port Pub in Port Williams nails the local-pub-with-real-food formula.

Bring it back to the cabin Every cabin at Sunken Escapes has a BBQ and a fire pit. Some of our favourite nights are a stop at Noggins for steaks and corn, a bottle from a Gaspereau winery, and a sunset on the lake.
